The gardens of Suzhou were a wonder. Of all the gardens we visited (most of which feature rocks rather than flowers) I think I liked the Lingering Garden best. It was wonderfully mysterious, with twists and turns and though medium sized by Suzhou garden standards, it seemed much larger.
I think I also liked it because we visited it first and there were fewer crowds. The Humble Administrator's garden which is supposed to be the highlight of the town was so packed, it was impossible to enjoy. Perhaps if I went back first thing in the morning and wasn't getting mowed down by tour groups I'd enjoy it more....
